Arsenic found in northern Thailand rivers
The Pollution Control Department found arsenic levels exceeding safety limits in the Kok and Sai rivers, with severely harmful arsenic concentrations at all monitored sites in the Ruak and Mekong rivers. The highest level was 80 milligrams per kilogram in the Mekong River in Chiang Saen district. Expats in Chiang Mai or Mae Sai areas should avoid contact with these waters.
