Thailand tightens car and motorcycle hire-purchase contracts
The Thai Consumer Protection Board has designated car and motorcycle hire-purchase as a regulated business effective 120 days from publication (around January 12, 2027). New standard contracts must be in Thai with minimum font size, ban certain unfair clauses, and require lenders to use effective interest rate (reducing balance) calculations. The rules also apply to digital platforms acting as intermediaries.
