Officials: Major dams can handle northern runoff, easing flood fears

Thailand's Royal Irrigation Department says Bhumibol and Sirikit dams can absorb all northern runoff, and water levels along the Chao Phraya River are improving. Releases from Mae Krong Dam have been increased, raising downstream water levels in three provinces by 40–50 cm, but officials expect less impact than previous flooding. Expats in downstream areas of Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Samut Sakhon, and eastern provinces should monitor conditions, though the situation is expected to improve.
