Thailand raises EV import excise tax to 35% on Jan 1

Import duty on imported battery EVs and range-extended EVs will rise to 35% from 10% and 15% respectively on Jan 1, 2027. The Industry Ministry said no further import curbs will be added before then, to avoid trade-barrier complaints. Observers expect imports and bookings to accelerate in the last two months of 2026 as buyers try to beat the higher tax.
