Birth registration rules tightened for foreign parents
Thailand has tightened birth registration procedures nationwide after a scandal in which about 500 Chinese children obtained Thai nationality using fraudulent documents. Cases involving a foreign parent now require an in-person appearance at a district office to confirm parental identity. The measures aim to prevent impersonation and exploitation of the civil registration system.
