Health emergency centre opened after suspected waste leak in Prachin Buri
Thailand's Department of Disease Control has opened an emergency operations centre to monitor health risks after floods likely caused a leak from an industrial waste landfill in Prachin Buri. Health assessments from Oct 6-16 found 316 people screened, with 611 having no symptoms and 794 reporting symptoms. Residents in the affected zone are advised to avoid contact with floodwater, wear protective gear, and use only confirmed safe water.
What this means for you
- For residents in the 2–7 km radius around the suspected contamination source: avoid wading through floodwater, wear rubber boots and protective gear, and wash immediately with clean water after any exposure.
- Avoid consuming potentially contaminated food, farm animals, or aquaculture products from the area until authorities confirm they are safe.
- Only use water that has been confirmed safe by relevant authorities; do not use suspected contaminated water for cooking or bathing.
